About Verity Longpar

Welcome to my site! My name is Verity. I work as a receptionist in a dentist office. Every day for the past 20 years, I have come in to the office, worked on paperwork, and greeted patients. I love my job, because it has helped me meet a lot of really wonderful people. I have seen families grow up! But an added benefit from my job is that I have also picked up some small information about dentistry. I'm not one of the dentists, but I do know quite a bit about simple procedures and basic dental hygiene. Hopefully this blog can teach you something, but remember to always consult with your actual dentist for real professional advice!

Top Five Reasons To Use Sedation At Your Next Dental Visit

Eleanor Crawford

Sedation dentistry involves the use of sedatives to relax the patient during a dental procedure.  This is a common practice that has been used more and more often over the years because of its many benefits.  If it's not something you've tried yet, sedation dentistry is definitely something you should consider.  Here are the top five things that make sedation dentistry so useful:

1. It's Relaxing

Going to the dentist can be a stressful experience for a variety of reasons.  Perhaps you find yourself worried about the cost or hassle of the visit, or maybe the dentist has simply always scared you a little.  When you're sedated you'll feel much more at ease during the dental procedure—no more worrying in the dentist's chair!

2. Time Goes By More Quickly

If you're not fond of going to the dentist, you're in luck—many sedatives will make you feel as if the whole visit is over before you even know it.  In fact, with deep sedation your entire appointment will be over in the blink of an eye.

3. You Could Save Time With Fewer Appointments

When you're sedated and at ease, the dentist is often able to get more of the treatment done at one time.  Although this certainly depends on what procedure is being done, oftentimes with sedation the dentist can accomplish in one visit what might otherwise take several visits.  Fewer appointments means fewer interruptions to your busy personal schedule.

4. It Helps Nip the Gag Reflex in the Bud

Some people have particularly sensitive gag reflexes and it makes going to the dentist an uncomfortable experience.  As you sit in the chair you feel like you could throw up at any moment, making things awkward for both yourself and the dentist.  Sedation helps considerably to reduce this problem, so definitely take it into consideration if this sounds familiar to you.

5. Less Discomfort Overall

Do you hate the feeling of holding your mouth wide open for hours and being poked and prodded by tools?  So do most people, but when you're under sedation you'll hardly notice any of this.  Many people hardly even remember the procedure afterwards.  That's definitely a bonus we can get behind.

As you can see, sedation dentistry offers benefits for just about anyone.  Whether you're nervous about going to the dentist, one like Mill Creek Family Dental, or just want to save some time, there are plenty of benefits for you and your family.
