About Verity Longpar

Welcome to my site! My name is Verity. I work as a receptionist in a dentist office. Every day for the past 20 years, I have come in to the office, worked on paperwork, and greeted patients. I love my job, because it has helped me meet a lot of really wonderful people. I have seen families grow up! But an added benefit from my job is that I have also picked up some small information about dentistry. I'm not one of the dentists, but I do know quite a bit about simple procedures and basic dental hygiene. Hopefully this blog can teach you something, but remember to always consult with your actual dentist for real professional advice!

Are Implants Practical For The Average Patient?

Eleanor Crawford

If you have a missing tooth or several missing teeth, you do have several options. You can have a bridge attached to fill in the empty spaces or have a partial denture created. You can also decide to have a permanent implant placed in your mouth. You may think that an implant is not the most practical choice for you due to the cost and complexity of the procedure. However, implants can be a practical choice for many people.

Time Frame

The traditional implant process takes several months to complete, which is one reason some people do not take advantage of the procedure. In some instances, a bone graft may be necessary due to wear and tear on your jaw. Once your bones are strong enough, the dentist or oral surgeon inserts a metal piece into your jaw. After a period of several additional months, you will have an abutment placed on the implant. When that heals, you can have the permanent crown attached. You may find this process simply too unwieldy for your taste and too difficult to fit into your schedule. Fortunately, you may be able to choose a newer, one day process , depending on the health of your jaw and gums. Consult with your dentist to find out if the faster procedure is appropriate for you.

Cost

Cost is another factor that may discourage you from seeking implants. It is true that the original cost of the implants can range between $2000 and $5000 dollars, not including the cost of materials. Dental insurance may cover a portion of the cost, but you will still have to make a significant investment. However, the implants can prevent extensive future damage. Not replacing your teeth can lead to erosion of your bone and nerve damage. Also, implants offer you an excellent level of comfort and the utility of your original teeth. As a bonus, you may actually end up saving money over the course of your lifetime.

Dental implants have been around for some time and are probably your best option for having normal-looking and functioning replacement teeth. Many people are still put off by the cost and the length of the procedure. If you are considering implants, consult with your dentist about what procedure would best fit your schedule and your wallet. You may find that implants are a practical as well as superior choice for your oral healthcare needs. To learn more, contact a dental clinic like Webster Cosmetic Dental LTD.
