About Verity Longpar

Welcome to my site! My name is Verity. I work as a receptionist in a dentist office. Every day for the past 20 years, I have come in to the office, worked on paperwork, and greeted patients. I love my job, because it has helped me meet a lot of really wonderful people. I have seen families grow up! But an added benefit from my job is that I have also picked up some small information about dentistry. I'm not one of the dentists, but I do know quite a bit about simple procedures and basic dental hygiene. Hopefully this blog can teach you something, but remember to always consult with your actual dentist for real professional advice!

Why You Should Prioritize Your Annual Visit With The Dentist

Eleanor Crawford

Unless you have a killer toothache or you notice that your gums are bleeding, it's easy to think that you don't really need to go to the dentist. If you have dental insurance you might not want to pay the co-pay and if you don't, the money just might not be there. However, dentists are trained for a reason and they can provide an incredible number of services which are quite helpful to you. Listed below are just a few of the reasons why you should make it a priority to visit the general dentist on at least an annual basis.

Dental Problems Often Lurk Beneath The Surface

Just because your teeth appear to be in good shape, doesn't mean that they actually are. Some dental problems don't actually produce noticeable effects until they are in the advanced stages. Getting to the root of the issue before they have gone too far is the key to effective treatment. The dentist can provide this for you.

Things like cavities and gum disease can go undetected for quite some time. It's quite possible to be completely unaware of a serious oral issue that needs to be addressed. Going to the dentist annually allows you to stay ahead of the game. Your dentist can perform a thorough evaluation and catch something that would have caused you significant pain down the road.

Dentists Keep You On Your Toes

If you're the type of person who occasionally goes to sleep without brushing your teeth or fails to floss for weeks on end, you definitely need to prioritize your dental visits. Just knowing that a dental professional is going to be looking inside of your mouth could be all that is necessary to keep you on a definite dental care schedule.

You want to receive a clean bill of health when you go to the dentist. This aim can propel you to brush your teeth more often and make sure that you floss after each meal. Your mouth will be clean and so healthy that you might even end up impressing the dentist with your smile!

Along with the traditional check-ups, dentists can also do advance screening for some of the dental maladies that run in your family. Find out what kinds of dental problems your family members have dealt with and ask your dentist if they can administer a specific examination to find out if you are at risk for it.
