About Verity Longpar

Welcome to my site! My name is Verity. I work as a receptionist in a dentist office. Every day for the past 20 years, I have come in to the office, worked on paperwork, and greeted patients. I love my job, because it has helped me meet a lot of really wonderful people. I have seen families grow up! But an added benefit from my job is that I have also picked up some small information about dentistry. I'm not one of the dentists, but I do know quite a bit about simple procedures and basic dental hygiene. Hopefully this blog can teach you something, but remember to always consult with your actual dentist for real professional advice!

Teeth Whitening Treatments And Dental Health

Eleanor Crawford

Lots of patients have issues with tooth discoloration that they want to fix. Some patients want their teeth to look very bright, while other people are just interested in making their teeth look healthier. Dentists need to determine the cause of the tooth discoloration before they can give patients the procedures that they need.

Dentists Will Use Different Whitening Techniques to Address Different Forms of Tooth Discoloration

Teeth can become discolored for many reasons. Patients who consume a lot of wine, tea, and coffee on a regular basis will often end up with noticeably stained teeth. People in this situation will need to get their teeth cleaned. They might be able to remove most of the discoloration with a basic dental cleaning procedure.

Bleaching stained teeth won't give people the results that they want. However, many patients have always had somewhat discolored teeth. Most people will also develop some of the symptoms associated with tooth discoloration as they get older. Other patients will get discolored teeth after an injury. If the teeth themselves are discolored, and they stay discolored after they're cleaned, the patient's teeth should respond well to specialized bleaching gels. A dentist will examine a patient's teeth before deciding on the right whitening procedure. In some cases, some underlying dental issues will need to be addressed before the patient's teeth can get professionally whitened.

Patients Have to Fix Their Dental Health Issues Before Whitening Their Teeth

It's difficult to successfully whiten unhealthy teeth. Patients will certainly need to get their cavities fixed before they whiten their teeth. However, problems with the gums also need to be addressed. Patients who have some relatively benign dental abnormalities might still be able to whiten their teeth. However, they will still have to discuss the situation with a dentist in order to make the right decision. Patients will get better results if their teeth are as healthy as possible, even if those results won't be permanent.

The Whitening Treatments Can Last For a Long Time

When some patients whiten their teeth, they're able to maintain the results for a couple of years. In other cases, the tooth discoloration will start to return after a few months. People who have good dental hygiene habits might be able to maintain the results for a relatively long period of time. However, patients won't be able to control the color of their teeth completely.
