About Verity Longpar

Welcome to my site! My name is Verity. I work as a receptionist in a dentist office. Every day for the past 20 years, I have come in to the office, worked on paperwork, and greeted patients. I love my job, because it has helped me meet a lot of really wonderful people. I have seen families grow up! But an added benefit from my job is that I have also picked up some small information about dentistry. I'm not one of the dentists, but I do know quite a bit about simple procedures and basic dental hygiene. Hopefully this blog can teach you something, but remember to always consult with your actual dentist for real professional advice!

4 Services You Can Find At A Family Dentist Office

Eleanor Crawford

Regular dental care can keep your smile white and your teeth healthy. A family dentist can provide all the oral care that you need. Here are a few services you can expect to find at a family dentist office:

1. Pediatric Dentistry

Family dentists can care for every member of your family, including the little ones. They are trained to provide pediatric dental services to young patients. Children often need extra patience and gentleness, especially if they're scared to go to the dentist. Kids may need smaller dental tools as well, in order to accommodate their small mouths. Family dentists can provide the specific procedures that kids need, such as fluoride treatments and dental sealants.

2. Dentures

Family dentists can also help the oldest members of your family. Senior citizens must often contend with tooth loss. Fortunately, family dentists can create dentures for anyone who has lost one or more of their teeth. Dentures can allow people to smile with confidence. It can also help them chew their food so they can get the nutrition they need. Dentures are a noninvasive tooth replacement solution.

3. Periodontal Care

Gum health is equally as important as tooth health. Your gums support your teeth. Unhealthy gums can become infected or begin to erode, which can lead to tooth loss. Family dentists provide periodontal care for adults. Your dentist can check your gum health during your dental exam. They may measure your gum depth to check for gum erosion. If periodontal disease is found, your dentist can provide treatment to combat it. Root planing can be performed using local anesthesia. Root planing is a procedure that will allow your dentist to remove pockets of bacteria from beneath the surface of your gums.

4. Restorative Treatment

Family dentists can also provide restorative treatments for damaged and decayed teeth. Cavities are the most common form of tooth decay. Your dentist can treat cavities by removing them using a dental drill. Once cavities have been removed, they can be filled with composite resin, which is discreet and tooth-colored. Composite resin can also be used to repair chipped and cracked teeth in a procedure known as dental bonding.

Family dentists can also perform more elaborate forms of restorative treatment, such as root canal therapy. Root canal therapy is an effective technique used to treat abscessed teeth by removing infected pulp from the roots of your teeth. A cement-like material will be used to fill the space left in your tooth roots, and a dental crown will be placed to protect your tooth. Restorative treatment can allow your dentist to save teeth that might otherwise need to be extracted.
