About Verity Longpar

Welcome to my site! My name is Verity. I work as a receptionist in a dentist office. Every day for the past 20 years, I have come in to the office, worked on paperwork, and greeted patients. I love my job, because it has helped me meet a lot of really wonderful people. I have seen families grow up! But an added benefit from my job is that I have also picked up some small information about dentistry. I'm not one of the dentists, but I do know quite a bit about simple procedures and basic dental hygiene. Hopefully this blog can teach you something, but remember to always consult with your actual dentist for real professional advice!

What Happens When You Get Dental Veneers?

Eleanor Crawford

Are you not quite happy with the look of your teeth and want to get dental veneers? If so, it will help to know more about how the process works so you can decide if it's right for you.

Preparation

A lot of preparation goes into making sure that the teeth are prepared for dental veneers. The dentist will have to perform laser gum re-contouring to make sure that they are the desired shape before the veneers are placed on the teeth. If you have existing dental work, such as a crown, it may need to be removed to make room for the veneers. The teeth are then shaped by removing a thin layer of enamel from the surface that the veneers will be attached to.

A mold will be taken of your teeth once all the preparation is complete, which is sent off to a lab to make your dental veneers. They'll have the exact measurements of your teeth to ensure that the veneers fit perfectly.

Temporary Veneers Application

With all the prep work complete, your dentist will put temporary veneers on your teeth until the actual veneers are ready. This is done to help protect your teeth during the time that the lab is working on the final veneers. Don't worry about the looks, though, since the dentist will still refine the temporary veneers so that they look good during the time that you are waiting for the finished veneers to come in.

Veneer Application

You'll return to the dentist to have the finished porcelain veneers fitted to your teeth. The veneers are actually attached to your teeth using a special dental cement that is designed to last a very long time. Each veneer will be made as an individual piece that needs to be attached to each tooth with extreme care since the dental cement is going to ensure that the veneer does not go anywhere once it is in place.

The dentist will check your bite to make sure that everything is lining up properly. If they need to, they can make some slight adjustments to the dental veneers to improve your comfort and the look if necessary. Thankfully, you'll be able to walk out of the fitting appointment with teeth that you are proud to show off.
